The high cost of being seen in an Emergency Department is a result of what they are designed for and how they are used by the community.

  • Hospital Emergency Departments are designed to take care of life threatening events: heart attacks, car wrecks, and the like.
  • This requires keeping staff in the department even when no patients are there.
  • It also requires specialized equipment.
  • These costs do not disappear when less severe illnesses are treated. The staff still have to be paid the same whether they are treating a car wreck or a sore throat.

Core Physician Resources works closely with your hospital to make sure that your time in the ED is used as efficiently as possible. We monitor to make sure unnecessary tests and medications are not being used. All of these efforts are focused on making sure that you do not have to pay more than is absolutely necessary for your care.

Most hospitals choose to manage the financial aspects of your care themselves. We are not involved in creating your bill or collecting it. If you have questions regarding that, contact the business office at the hospital where you received care.
